The Vietnam Red Cross Society (VNRC) Central Committee said on April 24 that it has decided to offer a relief package worth over VND270 million (US$11,700) in cash and kind to victims affected by recent hailstorms in the northern mountainous provinces of Dien Bien, Lao Cai and Lai Chau.

Specifically, it will grant VND30 million, 50 boxes of household goods and 50 sets of home repair tools to Lao Cai, 50 boxes of household goods and 50 sets of home repair tools to Lai Chau, and VND50 million to Dien Bien.

Cash will be given to households with injured people, collapsed or damaged houses, with a priority given to the poor, the disabled, the elderly and those with children aged below 5.

Meanwhile, boxes of household goods and home repair tools will be handed over to families with collapsed houses.

The VNRC chapter of Lai Chau also donated VND81 million to families in Nam So commune (Tan Uyen district), Dao San and Tung Qua Lin communes (Phong Tho district) to repair houses.
