VOV.VN - Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh alongside ASEAN foreign ministers on July 30 met with representatives of ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) as part of the ongoing 52nd ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and related meetings in Bangkok.

During the meeting, they heard reports on the AICHR’s past operations and gave directions to its future activities, particularly the building of the AICHR’s 2020 Priority Programme and Work Plan for 2021 – 2025 and contributions to ASEAN's joint efforts to build a people-centred community.

On the sidelines of the 52nd ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, Minh also had a meeting with Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi, during which the two diplomats consented to foster the Vietnam – Indonesia strategic partnership across multiple fields, including maritime cooperation. 

They compared notes on regional and international issues of shared concern while underlining the importance of reinforcing solidarity in ASEAN as well as the bloc’s central role and stepping up effective collaboration within ASEAN and between the bloc and its partners.

Regarding the East Sea issue, both sides agreed that parties concerned need to comply with international law, particularly the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) to maintain peace and stability, and consolidate mutual trust among countries.

The same day, Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Quoc Dung had a meeting with his Indian counterpart Vijay Thakur Singh to discuss regional matters and measures to develop bilateral relations as well as India’s cooperation with the Mekong sub-region.
