As one of the leading enterprises in the aviation-logistics sector, Vietnam Airlines has pursued a sustainable development strategy over the years. The airline focuses on reducing emissions, modernising its fleet, improving operational processes, and optimising resource use.
It also uses sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), implementing a carbon control system and investing in a new generation of fuel-efficient fleets.
On May 27, 2024, Vietnam Airlines operated the first commercial flight using SAF from Singapore to Hanoi. Continuing this success, on June 5, on the occasion of World Environment Day, the airline simultaneously operated six domestic flights using SAF.
This is the first time in Vietnam that SAF has been applied simultaneously on both international and domestic flight networks, marking the transition from pilot to practice in sustainable aviation operations.
In addition to focusing on environmental factors, Vietnam Airlines also actively integrates social and governance criteria into all its activities. The airline maintains a policy of remuneration and career development for employees, enhances internal training, promotes gender equality, and ensures the rights of diverse labour groups.
For social responsibility programmes, from community support to blood donations and relief activities, the carrier has maintained its commitment to the community. One of these activities was "Dream Trip 2025", which brought memorable experiences to 80 children living in special circumstances in Danang. Dream Trip is a volunteer activity, and a spiritual bridge between the enterprise and the community, inspiring a desire to change the lives of those less fortunate.
To protect the environment and restore the ecosystem, Vietnam Airlines and MoMo launched a forest protection campaign in June 2024. The campaign focuses on restoring 50 hectares of forest in the northwest region to prevent degradation and protect natural resources for future generations.
In its development strategy to 2030, Vietnam Airlines aims to improve its internal ESG index, gradually applying measurement and governance tools in line with international standards, while aiming for carbon neutrality by 2050.
