The Ministry of Transport has decided to extend closure of Van Don International Airport in Quang Ninh through March 3 for fears of coronavirus transmission.

The decision was made at the proposal of the Civil Aviation Authority of Viet Nam (CAAV).

Previously, the ministry decided to close the airport for 15 days, starting from January 29, after a security officer working at the airport was confirmed positive for COVID. 

Since then, the northern province has recorded 10 new COVID-19 cases linked to the airport which has become a concentrated quarantine camp for 132 people.

With the latest decision, all the airport employees and staff will have to go into self-isolation until the end of March 2.

The Van Don International Airport is the first private airport in Viet Nam, built and operated by local real estate Sun Group.
