A new spring is coming and the festive atmosphere of the Lunar New Year 2023 – the Year of Cat – has started to grip everywhere. After years of operating in Vietnam, Unilever's brands have become a part of Vietnamese people’s lives. Knowing that Tet is a precious event for the nation, Unilever wants to use the occasion to spread traditional values.

Paying tribute to unsung heroes

Tet is the season of reunion when people spend quality time with their loved ones after a year of hard work. However, not everyone can enjoy the celebration and many have to put aside their own happiness to bring peace and joy to others.

Acknowledging this well, Unilever Vietnam and its brands have carried out many activities to pay tribute and share happiness with the frontline doctors, healthcare staff, and sanitation workers who have contributed to building a healthier and happier Vietnam.

Firstly, Unilever Vietnam gave more than 50,000 Unilever products to healthcare professionals at 12 hospitals in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Dak Lak with the purpose of lifting their spirits and making a more heartwarming Tet for the soldiers in white shirts who constantly strive to take care of patients across the country.

With the campaign Plastic Reborn, Unilever Vietnam gave more than 1,000 gifts to informal waste collectors to honour these unsung heroes.

Together with the NGO ENDA and the HCMC Urban Environment Company, Unilever carried out the campaign Grateful for Action, Dirty with Pride to honour people doing the country's cleaning jobs and bringing value to the community. This campaign gave 550 gifts to the force of waste collectors who keep the streets clean and beautiful, allowing them to have a more well-rounded Tet.

Accompanying the underprivileged

Additionally, Unilever has also implemented various programmes to support disadvantaged children, women, and underprivileged workers across the country.

Unilever Vietnam collaborated with Vietnam Women's Union to conduct the Tet of Solidarity – Tet of the Border project, giving 750 gifts to Vietnam's heroic mothers, families under the preferential treatment policy, women in need, orphans, and disadvantaged children in six provinces – Thua Thien Hue, Kon Tum, Gia Lai, Tay Ninh, An Giang, and Dong Thap.

The Grateful for Action, Dirty with Pride project cooperated with the Power Of Wisdom and Integrity Co., Ltd. to send 300 gifts to children orphaned by COVID-19 and their caregivers in Ho Chi Minh City. It is intended to bring the children a warmer Tet and express gratitude to the warm-hearted volunteers who have helped and taken care of these underprivileged children.

Unilever Vietnam also cooperated with the Ho Chi Minh City Association of Industrial Park Enterprises to support 1,000 industrial park workers who face difficult circumstances due to the COVID-19 pandemic, natural disasters, storms, and floods, as well as those who do not have enough funds to go home to celebrate Tet.

Along with this, the group coordinated with the Ministry of Education and Training to send 400 Tet gifts to teachers and students in Vietnam’s remote areas. This highlights the company's desire to express gratitude to teachers and encourage students in underprivileged and deprived areas.

Finally, Unilever Vietnam joined up with the People's Committee of District 7, Ho Chi Minh City, on the Year of Cat Festival programme, sending 300 gift packs including personal care, home care, and nutritional products to underprivileged children in the district.

Contributing to a more inclusive society

During nearly three decades in Vietnam, such programmes that show gratitude to the unsung heroes and support the underprivileged are among Unilever Vietnam's commitments to creating a more sustainable future and a more inclusive society in Vietnam.

Le Thi Hong Nhi, head of Communications and Corporate Affairs at Unilever Vietnam said, “Tet is the time when people always want to be home with their families. However, not everyone has the opportunity to properly celebrate a Tet. Some people have to spend the holiday far away from home, some cannot afford to celebrate, and others sacrifice their own family time to make sure others can have a safe and happy Tet. Unilever Vietnam and its brands do not want to leave them behind. We are happy to bring gifts to underprivileged people and honour those who make sacrifices and contribute to society by spreading warmth and happiness.”
