Located in Quang Nam province, central Vietnam, Hoi An ancient town which has been recognized by UNESCO as a world heritage site has been submerged again by rising floodwaters following a prolonged spell of torrential rain.

The morning of November 11 sees water levels of the Hoai River reach 1.75 metres due to continuous rainfall, exceeding the second alert level.

Situated next to the Hoai River, Bach Dang street is left hidden under floodwater as high as one metre.

Nguyen Thai Hoc, Le Loi, and Hoang Van Thu streets suffer flooding of between 60cm and 70 cm.

Due to the volume of rainfall, boats have been utilised as the main means of transport in the area.

The crossroads of Le Loi and Nguyen Thai Hoc street are submerged by serious flooding.

The scene at the Hoi An market as floodwater inundates the area, forcing all trading activities to come to a grinding halt. Due to this, some local traders are forced to move to higher grounds.

Since the beginning of this year Hoi An has been struck by seven severe floods.

Rain and flooding are forecast to continue throughout the central region during the weekend as tropical storm Vamco is heading towards the central coast.

Local residents in Hoi An are preparing to move all of their belongings to higher grounds.
