Trung An company organizes a New Year’s rice export ceremony

Three decades of agricultural excellence

Trung An Hi-Tech Farming Joint Stock Company, previously known as Trung An Company Limited, was established in 1996 in Thot Not district, Can Tho city. Beyond the fundamental mission of providing clean rice sources to the Vietnamese populace, Trung An is dedicated to elevating Vietnamese agricultural products to international standards.

In 2005, the company embarked on a significant expansion of production and invested in state-of-the-art automated equipment, thereby emerging as a pioneer in fragrant rice exportation within the Mekong Delta. Its product portfolio extends globally, reaching countries such as China, Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines, Australia, the United States, Germany, the United Arab Emirates, Ivory Coast, Switzerland, Qatar and Canada.

A pivotal turning point occurred in 2011 when Trung An collaborated with farmers to establish high-tech sustainable rice farming areas, ushering in a new era of providing rice products of the highest quality to customers. Currently, Trung An's fragrant rice meets organic standards in the most demanding markets, including the U.S., Europe and Japan. Moreover, in the domestic market, with a diverse range of brands, Trung An fragrant rice is ubiquitous in all distribution systems, resonating as a household name among consumers.

In August 2020, following the commencement of the Vietnam-EU Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA), Trung An garnered recognition from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) as the recommended entity to export the initial zero-tax fragrant rice to the EU. Notably, rice products exported to Europe and the U.S. bear exclusively Vietnamese brand labels (featuring the logo and manufacturer's name, Trung An Company), a testament to the company's commitment to its identity.

In early 2021, Trung An continued its impactful contributions by receiving recommendations from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to export the first consignment of fragrant rice to Singapore and Malaysia after the signing of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP). This achievement stands out as a noteworthy milestone in the country's rice export landscape.

Beyond rice exportation, Trung An is strategically positioning itself as a pioneer in a future where rice serves as a primary ingredient and a cornerstone for a range of globally sustainable products. The company actively promotes the development of post-rice products, exemplified by the well-received Trung An Purple Brown Rice Tea—a valuable, health-conscious beverage favored by discerning consumers. Additionally, the company boasts a diverse product line, including vermicelli, pho and other offerings.

Having operated for nearly 30 years, with 18 years dedicated to the export of rice and post-rice products, Trung An has made a substantial contribution of nearly US$1 billion to the country's export value, solidifying its position as a premier high-quality fragrant rice exporter in Vietnam. Situated in the southwestern provinces with a vast agricultural expanse, Trung An consistently produces 150,000 to 200,000 tons annually. From its humble origins as an unknown rice brand, the company's commitment to quality has garnered recognition, firmly establishing Vietnamese rice on the international stage.

Most recently, in 2022, the Prime Minister entrusted the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development with the task of spearheading the "1 million hectares of high-quality, low-emission specialized rice in the Mekong Delta for export" project. In response, Trung An Company, nominated by the Ministry and relevant provinces and cities, stands as the pioneering force set to implement 100,000 hectares by 2030. In this way, the company continues to play a vital role in advancing the national food security strategy while enhancing the brand reputation of Vietnamese agricultural products on a global scale.

Dedicated to advancing sustainable agriculture

In its nearly three decades of engagement with the Southwest and local communities, Trung An has meticulously crafted a sustainable agricultural ecosystem, embodying its commitment to fostering care and understanding in agriculture. Specifically, guided by the mission to lead Vietnamese agriculture onto a "natural path," Trung An consistently upholds sincerity in cultivation, production and business philosophy, encourages creativity in product development, and cultivates a community of Vietnamese farmers devoted to and steadfast in the pursuit of sustainable practices.

The company has set ambitious targets, aiming to represent half of the country's organic rice export volume by 2030, with 30% dedicated to fragrant rice and well-branded high-value rice.

Aligned with a strategic vision for sustainable development, Trung An's leadership asserts its commitment to perpetuating the establishment of a clean rice brand processed through advanced technologies, maintaining its status as the largest producer and exporter of clean rice in Vietnam.

To fortify the development of the domestic rice market, particularly in the high-end segment encompassing clean and organic rice, Trung An plans to augment its existing stores and inaugurate new outlets exclusively tailored for the discerning midmarket and upmarket customers in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. Additionally, the company will intensify its involvement in the value chain of corporations producing vermicelli, pho, and boxed meal lunches, leveraging its expansive, stable input areas and adhering to standard farming processes certified with Global GAP and Organic standards.

In the realm of export markets, Trung An will persist in expanding its reach to developed markets such as the EU, South Korea, Singapore and Malaysia, characterized by stringent conditions but lucrative profit margins. This strategic approach leverages the company's well-invested production facilities and rigorous quality control processes aligned with EU standards.

Notably, Trung An will progressively transition from export retail to export wholesale, strategically positioning its products in supermarkets across developed countries. The initial markets slated for this approach include Saudi Arabia, Germany, Australia and the United States.

To realize these ambitious goals, the company is poised to intensify input control and extend high-quality rice cultivation areas. Currently, Trung An collaborates with farmers and agricultural cooperatives to cultivate rice on nearly 10,000 hectares of land in Soc Trang, Can Tho, Hau Giang, Kien Giang and Dong Thap. The entire farming area is meticulously organized by the company into organic production and Global Good Agricultural Practices (GlobalGAP) processes, ensuring quality control from planting through harvesting, processing and selling.

A leader of Trung An Hi-Tech Farming Joint Stock Company articulates the firm's unwavering commitment, stating, "With its internal strengths and established position, Trung An is dedicated to accompanying Vietnamese agriculture in the national food security strategy through 2030. We believe in a vision of a sustainable future where Vietnamese agricultural products command prestige and global influence."
