Minister of Transport Nguyen Van The on February 14 chaired a meeting with relevant units and agencies under the ministry to discuss the issue.

He asked the MoT's Department of Environment to assess the proposal to establish a steering committee and give advice to the leader. It will have to submit the establishment roadmap by early next week.

According to Tran Anh Duong, director general of the Department of Environment, means of transport on roads, railway, waterway, maritime, and aviation mostly use fossil fuels like petroleum, oil, and others, which cause greenhouse gas emissions.

In line with international practice, and to achieve net zero emissions by 2050, the transport sector will have to take a number of measures to reduce emissions, including promoting electric energy, bio-fuel, and hydrogen, while developing public transport.
