National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan has noted with satisfaction the strong development of the extensive strategic partnership for peace and prosperity in Asia between Vietnam and Japan.

National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan has noted with satisfaction the strong development of the extensive strategic partnership for peace and prosperity in Asia between Vietnam and Japan.

During a reception for outgoing Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam Umeda Kunio in Hanoi on March 19,  the NA leader highlighted the closer collaboration between the two countries in regional and international issues as well as their effective cooperation across such fields as politics, security and defence, economics, trade, investment, tourism, labor and people-to-people exchanges.

She also applauded the great efforts by Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam Umeda Kunio to the promotion of bilateral ties Vietnam and Japan as well as between their two law-making bodies. Ngan thanked the Japanese diplomat for conveying Japanese businesses’ recommendations to the Vietnamese National Assembly during the process of amending and issuing new legal documents.

 She was appreciative of the Japanese Embassy’s support for the implementation of a project funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to help the NA Office improve its staff members’ capacity.

The top Vietnamese legislator also acknowledged Umeda’s contributions to the close cooperation between the Vietnam-Japan parliamentary friendship group and the Japan-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentary Alliance.

The Japanese diplomat, in turn, thanked NA Chairwoman Ngan and other parliamentary leaders for their support given to him during his tenure in Vietnam.  

Japan places great importance on the extensive strategic partnership for peace and prosperity in Asia with Vietnam, he told his host.

During the meeting, host and guest also compared notes some specific issues regarding labour cooperation, the fight against the ongoing COVID-19 epidemic. 

Ambassador Umeda Kunio said he hopes that Vietnam and Japan would bolster cooperation in coping with climate change, especially in response to saline drought in the Mekong River Delta.
