A total of three Vietnamese representatives have made Asia’s Top 500 universities rankings for 2020, as announced by the UK’s Times Higher Education.

The latest rankings released on June 3 indicate that the Vietnam National University in Hanoi is placed among the 201 to 250 group, while the Hanoi University of Science and Technology is placed among the 251 to 300 group, with the Vietnam National University in Ho Chi Minh City named in the 401+ group.

While being recognised as leading institutions in Asia, each of the institutions has won a place in the World University Rankings 2020 of The Times Higher Education, which features almost 1,400 universities across 92 countries. 

Indeed, the Vietnam National University in Hanoi and the Hanoi University of Science and Technology have been placed among the top 801 to 1000, and the Vietnam National University in Ho Chi Minh City is in the 1000+ group.  

The table has been put together based on 13 carefully calibrated performance indicators that measure an institution’s performance in terms of teaching, research, knowledge transfer, and international outlook.

For the fourth year in a row, the University of Oxford takes first place in the rankings, with its rival the University of Cambridge falling to third.

The California Institute of Technology climbs three places to second, while Stanford, Yale, Harvard, and Imperial College London all feature in the top ten.

Most notably, China now provides Asia’s leading two universities, with Tsinghua and Peking universities ranked at 23rd and 24th, respectively.
