With its rich potential and important geostrategic position, the Mekong sub-region is one of the few sub-regions in the world with full intra-regional cooperation mechanisms and cooperation mechanisms with many external partners.
However, some areas of cooperation overlap and are ineffective due to the lack of coordination and coordination between mechanisms. Meanwhile, non-traditional security issues are common challenges that require effective coordination.
In that context, following the success of the Mekong Forum series in 2022, the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam (DAV) and the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Vietnam Foundation (KAS) will co-chair the Mekong International Forum with the theme: "Improving the effectiveness of coordination between Mekong sub-region cooperation mechanisms, towards sustainable development" on November 24, at Liberty Central Saigon Citypoint Hotel, Ho Chi Minh City Bright.
The forum is divided into 3 sessions with the participation of more than 20 domestic and international experts and scholars specializing in Mekong research.
Session 1 focused on clarifying the importance of the Mekong subregion in the context of regional and global fluctuations.
At Session 2, speakers will present the views of ASEAN, the Mekong River Commission (MRC), and Mekong sub-region countries (Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam) on the advantages and difficulties in Mekong sub-region cooperation.
Finally, the prospect of cooperation between Mekong sub-regional mechanisms will be the main content mentioned in Session 3 of the Forum.
The Mekong International Forum is an opportunity for Vietnamese and international experts and scholars to share information and knowledge, and evaluate the current situation as well as the advantages and challenges in Mekong sub-region cooperation from different perspectives.
The ideas, initiatives, recommendations, and solutions exchanged and discussed at the Forum are expected to improve cooperation effectiveness and optimize resources for sustainable development in the Mekong sub-region.
