The Hanoi People’s Committee said the project will be developed by a consortium comprising Cong Thanh Construction Investment and Services Transport JSC and Cat Ba Sun Co., a Sun Group subsidiary, under a build-transfer (BT) arrangement within a public-private partnership framework.
Under the approved structure, the city will compensate the investors with land assets valued at VND8.19 trillion ($311 million), with the remaining capital to be covered by the municipal budget.
The project will span about 4.18 km, connecting the Tran Hung Dao-Tran Thanh Tong-Le Thanh Tong intersection in Hai Ba Trung district to Nguyen Son street in Long Bien district.
The main bridge will be 870 meters long, consisting of six spans arranged in two sections, each measuring 145 meters.
Tran Hung Dao project is one of 18 bridges planned across the Red River under Hanoi’s transport development master plan. Authorities expect the project to ease congestion in downtown city, support urban expansion on both sides of the river, and divert traffic from existing crossings such as Chuong Duong and Vinh Tuy bridges.
Hanoi currently has nine operational bridges spanning the Red River: Thang Long, Chuong Duong, Vinh Tuy, Thanh Tri, Nhat Tan, Vinh Thinh, Long Bien, and Viet Tri-Ba Vi.
Under its 2030-2050 transport plan, the city aims to build nine additional bridges, including Tran Hung Dao. This year, Hanoi has broken ground on the Tu Lien and Thuong Cat bridges across Red River.
