The event will offer participants a deeper insight into the bilateral relationship that exists between the two countries, detailing the progress made on war legacy issues over the past 25 years, in addition to the role that such legacies will play in the future relationship between the pair.
Vietnamese Ambassador to the US Ha Kim Ngoc and US Senator Patrick Leahy, representing the US state of Vermont, are scheduled to deliver the opening remarks at the conference.
Furthermore, the event’s panelists will be made up of Mike Cerre, Special Correspondent for PBS News Hour and Globe TV Reporter, and Tim Rieser, Senior Foreign Policy Aid for Senator Leahy and Democratic Clerk of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee.
On the centre’s website it states that “2020 marks the 25th anniversary of the normalization of relations between the United States and Vietnam. Vietnam is a key American partner in the Indo-Pacific region, and the United States and Vietnam have made great strides in building a forward-looking and mutually beneficial partnership despite the shared history of war, its baneful legacies, and a 19-year interruption to diplomatic relations.”
Originally founded in 1989, the centre, named after Henry L. Stimson, has been designed to promote international peace and security through a combination of analysis and outreach programmes.
