As a way of commemorating the landmark, a set of exclusive designs and products are to be released to consumers nationwide, including a Vietnamese coffee filter, a collection of cups called “Vietnam Been There”, and Starbucks exclusive cards.
In another step, the coffee franchise heavyweight has also announced plans to supply paper straws in all of its stores in the near future.
Starbucks first arrived in Vietnam back in February 2013 after launching a coffee shop in Ho Chi Minh City.
Following seven years since opening, the company now has 62 stores located in four major cities including Hanoi, Hai Phong, Da Nang, and Ho Chi Minh City.
Patricia Marques, General Manager of Starbucks Coffee Vietnam, said the firm has faced several challenges over the past seven years as they seek to enter new markets and find suitable locations to open new coffee shops.
According to the United Nations Environment Program, 80 countries globally have imposed restrictions on single-use plastic items.
Since the ban on plastic straws first came into force in Canada in June 2019, Starbucks has made changes to introduce paper straws to its stores globally with the goal of eliminating plastic straws by 2020.
Apart from Starbucks, a range of other coffee chains across the country have starting using paper straws such as Trung Nguyen Legend and Phuc Long Coffee & Tea.
