| Shell to provide first LNG shipment to Thi Vai LNG facility |
In late April, PV Gas issued procurement documents to prepare for the import of LNG for the trial and commercial operation of the 1 million metric tonnes per annum LNG storage facility in Thi Vai, which is located in the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau.
After consideration and negotiation rounds, PV Gas decided to select Shell as the supplier.
Once a test run has been completed and the site has been put into operation, it will be the first and largest LNG warehouse in Vietnam, with a capacity in the first phase of 1 million tonnes a year. The capacity will be increased to 3 million tonnes in the second phase.
The Thi Vai facility is capable of berthing LNG vessels of up to 100,000 tonnes and has a first-phase storage capacity of 180,000 cubic metres. The equipment is designed according to the latest versions of both Vietnamese and international standards and regulations.
Once completed, the system will provide about 1.4 billion cubic metres of gas to consumers, such as the Nhon Trach 3 and 4 thermal power plants and industrial customers, and will contribute to making up for gas shortages in the country after 2023.
The Thi Vai LNG terminal will be an important link in the supply of recycled gas to gas consumers. Along with investment in Son My LNG import terminal, which will have a total annual capacity of up to 10 million tonnes of LNG, PV GAS’s LNG infrastructure will meet the future energy needs of the southern region.
