Speaking at the event, Steve Rutchinski from the University of Toronto expressed how impressive the life and career of President Ho Chi Minh was, noting his dedication to the cause of Vietnamese freedom and the skill in which he garnered international support in the struggle for national independence.
Philip Fernandez, a member of the CVFS, stated that under the sound leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV), the Vietnamese people have been able to build a bright future for each individual and the country as a whole.
Attendees touched upon the nation’s contributions to the various liberation movements worldwide, in addition to expressing an interest in the e-book “Ho Chi Minh Songs” by Nguyen Dai Trang. The e-book features a collection of 25 songs which have been translated into English, as well as images of monuments and memorial areas which are dedicated to President Ho Chi Minh in over 20 countries globally.
To mark the occasion, the Vietnamese Embassy in Canada burnt incense at their headquarters in honour of the late President.
During his speech, Ambassador Pham Cao Phong urged embassy staff to maintain the spirit of patriotism and follow the Politburo’s Decree which encourages more studying of the thoughts, moral virtues, and lifestyle of President Ho Chi Minh.
The embassy is also poised to open a Ho Chi Minh display space at the Vietnam House located at No.85 Glebe Boulevard, Ottawa. It is expected to open on National Day (September 2).
