PV GAS and EVN aim to create a synergy of strength to research a plan to supply stable and long-term LNG from the Vung Ang LNG storage project to Quang Trach II LNG Thermal Power Plant.
The project is in line with Vietnam's Eighth National Power Development Plan (PDP8).
The MoU also ensures support for mutual development, strengthening the cooperation between EVN and Petrovietnam/PV GAS.
Following the MoU signing, the two sides will implement the committed contents and build support policies in the cooperation phase to aim for their long-term goals and benefits. EVN and PV GAS will establish a joint working group to study LNG supply options for Quang Trach II LNG Thermal Power Plant, reporting the results and seeking approval from authorities.
According to FiinGroup, Vietnam’s first step into LNG infrastructure development began with PV Gas’s inauguration of the country’s first commercial LNG terminal in late 2023. Among the 13 LNG power plants with a combined capacity of 24GW approved under PDP8, only two – Nhon Trach 3 and 4 and Hiep Phuoc – are currently under construction. The remaining 11 are in the planning phase, with three still seeking potential investors.
