Prime Minister Le Minh Hung has called for stronger cooperation between Vietnam and Hamburg, Germany, in seaports, logistics, the maritime economy, green transition and renewable energy, while urging the German city to help Vietnamese businesses expand their market presence and make better use of the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA).
The PM made the suggestion at a meeting with Mr. Peter Tschentscher, First Mayor and President of the Senate of Hamburg in Hanoi on October 14.
The Vietnamese Government leader proposed making the maritime economy and seaport development priority areas in Vietnam-Germany cooperation, particularly through stronger links and the sharing of information and experience between the Port of Hamburg and major Vietnamese seaports.
Vietnam also seeks greater cooperation with Germany and Europe in transport, technology transfer and management expertise to develop its port infrastructure and logistics services.
On green development, PM Hung encouraged Hamburg-based businesses to invest in Vietnam, particularly in renewable energy.
He also urged Hamburg to facilitate trade and investment ties and support the promotion and distribution of Vietnamese national-brand products in the German market.
Mr. Tschentscher, for his part, said Hamburg and German businesses were keen to develop long-term partnerships with Vietnamese counterparts and localities, particularly Ho Chi Minh City. Priority areas include ports, logistics, transport, offshore wind power, higher education, science and technology.
He also expressed Hamburg's interest in welcoming more Vietnamese business delegations to Germany and making more effective use of the EVFTA to expand trade between Vietnam, Germany and other EU member States.
