Northern Phu Tho province has expressed a strong desire for Spanish investors to fund four strategic pillars, including high-tech industries and semiconductors, logistics infrastructure, tourism, and ecological agriculture-forestry combined with the carbon credit market.
Speaking at an investment promotion conference in Madrid on June 3, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Bui Huy Vinh emphasized that after the merger with former Hoa Binh and Vinh Phuc provinces, the province possesses abundant development resources and a vast domestic market with a population of over 4 million and a natural area exceeding 9,300 sq.km.
With this expanded development space, Phu Tho invited Spanish corporations and businesses to invest in four key pillars.
The first pillar is high-tech industry and semiconductors. The province plans to develop at least one high-tech industrial park in the former Vinh Phuc province, attracting specialized investment in chip and integrated circuit design, artificial intelligence (AI), digital technology, and high-end automotive components. Phu Tho also encourages the application of AI, semiconductor manufacturing, telecommunications equipment, electric vehicle production, and next-generation energy storage batteries at large-scale industrial parks such as Phu Ha, Cam Khe, and Ba Thien.
The second pillar focuses on multimodal logistics infrastructure and green energy. This includes the construction of a comprehensive Free Trade Zone (FTZ) in former Vinh Phuc province's Binh Xuyen – Yen Lac area and accelerating the completion of the Binh Xuyen ICD Logistics Center and smart dry ports. The province aims to develop a system of smart logistics hubs and apply emission-reduction technologies to adapt to climate change, moving toward a sustainable circular economy.
The third pillar covers tourism, services, and high-end urban development. The province plans to systematically invest in a network of 87 golf courses meeting international PGA tournament standards by 2050. It is also calling for investment in the resort ecosystem of the Thanh Thuy hot springs and high-end entertainment complexes in Tam Dao, Dai Lai, and Mai Chau to maximize the advantages of the region’s cultural heritage. Additionally, Phu Tho seeks to develop chains of convalescent hospitals and nursing facilities to serve the "silver economy" trend.
The fourth pillar is ecological agriculture, forestry, and the carbon credit market. This involves forming large-scale organic specialized farming areas meeting international standards coupled with deep processing technologies. The province also aims to implement multi-purpose forestry economic programs and forest environmental services to participate effectively in the international carbon credit market.
Spain is currently Vietnam's fifth-largest trading partner within the European Union, with Vietnam's export turnover to Spain reaching approximately $4.1 billion.
