Falling demand for peach blossom trees, despite their high quality and appealing prices, has greatly concerned sellers in Ho Chi Minh City due to the downturn in business just two days ahead of the Tet holiday.

Makeshift stalls selling peach blossom trees from the northern region are set up in 23/9 Park in District 1, but recent days has seen them welcome fewer customers in comparison to previous years.

A single peach blossom tree costs between VND70,000 and VND1 million.

According to a seller, he is able to sell 60 peach trees a day after offering an attractive discount, reducing the price of each tree from VND1 million to VND700,000.

Peach blossom trees can be seen on sale throughout the park.

A seller takes a nap due to no customers making any purchases at the makeshift peach blossom shop.

A lack of business forces sellers to lower their prices.

A pair of auspicious flowers costs VND300,000, while a pair of chrysanthemum flowers costs VND180,000.

A similar situation also takes place at Le Van Tam Park in District 1.

Owners believe that the low demand seen this year has largely been caused by the impact of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) epidemic.

Sellers anticipate better sales on the final day before the start of the Lunar New Year, known locally as Tet, so that they will be able to return home in time for the annual celebrations.
