The figure not only reflects changing consumer behaviour but also shows that Viet Nam’s digital payment infrastructure is becoming increasingly robust — providing a foundation for the digital economy.

Speaking at the National Payment Corporation of Viet Nam’s conference on the rollout of tasks for 2026 on January 20, Nguyen Quang Hung, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the corporation, said: “Viet Nam’s electronic payment market has made remarkable strides in recent years. Transaction activity has continued to grow strongly, alongside rapid advances in technology and new payment methods — from QR codes and contactless payments to biometric authentication and integrated, multi-service e-wallet solutions.”

According to data from the National Payment Corporation of Viet Nam (NAPAS), transactions processed through the NAPAS system in 2025 increased by 24% in volume and 8% in value. NAPAS247 instant transfers continued to stand out, rising 27% in volume and 8% in value year on year.

Online payment transactions recorded growth of more than 25% in volume compared to 2024. Meanwhile, ATM cash withdrawals continued to decline, down 29% in volume and 26% in value, reflecting a shift towards more convenient payment options such as NAPAS247 instant transfers and VietQR code payments.

According to Nguyen Quang Minh, NAPAS’s Chief Executive Officer, beyond transaction growth in 2025, NAPAS also stepped up the rollout of solutions to enhance safety and security, ensure uninterrupted system operations, and improve processing capacity. This underscores its leading role in building a modern and secure national retail payment infrastructure.

In 2025, NAPAS issued more than 3.4 million alerts on suspicious transactions to customers, enabling them to proactively halt transactions suspected of fraud or impersonation. NAPAS also worked with the Viet Nam Banks Association to develop a handbook on handling accounts/cards suspected of fraud, contributing to a more transparent, safe, and sustainable payment environment. By the end of 2025, the handbook had been deployed at 47 banks.

Deputy Governor of the State Bank of Viet Nam Pham Tien Dung noted the highlights in NAPAS’s performance in 2025.

“NAPAS has been highly regarded by international partners for its implementation model, which makes it easier for people to use banks’ mobile apps to scan QR codes for payments when travelling abroad — and vice versa,” he said.
