The deal was announced in a business event as part of the Finland trip by Vietnamese Party chief To Lam last week.
According to Nokia’s announcement, the new pact focuses on the Hanoi area, border provinces, and the southern region, marking an important step in advancing the nation’s digital connectivity.
Under the agreement, Nokia will deploy equipment from its AirScale portfolio, powered by its energy-efficient ReefShark System-on-Chip technology.
The upgrade aims to deliver faster, more reliable connectivity with lower latency and higher network capacity while reducing power consumption. The scope also includes network management services to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
The expanded infrastructure will enhance mobile coverage, particularly in border regions and key economic and social hubs, improving access to telecommunications and digital transformation services nationwide. The initiative supports Vietnam’s broader goals of promoting economic growth and digital inclusion.
The contract underscores Nokia’s deepening commitment to Vietnam’s telecom sector, following its decision in 2024 to establish a manufacturing hub for AirScale equipment in the country. The facility supplies both domestic and international markets, creating new economic opportunities and strengthening regional supply chains.
“We are proud to deepen our partnership with VNPT and contribute to Vietnam’s digital future,” said Hiro Miura, head of Southeast Asia Market Unit at Nokia. “Our advanced technology delivers outstanding performance, enabling VNPT to provide faster, more reliable connectivity, especially in key border regions and major economic and social centers,” he stressed.
Also at the event, Nokia inked a memorandum of understanding with the Vietnamese military-run telecom giant Viettel, regarding cooperation in digital transformation and development of next-generation telecom infrastructure in Vietnam, including acceleration of 5G/6G, Open RAN, AI, and Data Center applications.
