The Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) has issued a Circular allowing exporters having export consignments to the UK valued at no more than €6,000 to carry out self-certification of origin.
The Circular specifies rules of origin subject to the United Kingdom-Viet Nam Free Trade Agreement (UKVFTA).
Meanwhile, for export consignments valued at more than €6,000, exporters must have a Certificate of Origin (C/O) form issued by an agency or organization authorized by the MoIT.
For import consignment into Viet Nam not exceeding €6,000 in value, any exporter is allowed to launch self-certification of origin while for import consignment worth more than €6,000, only exporter who meets regulations of the UK is permitted to realize self-certification of origin.
The Circular will become effective from July 26, 2021.
The UKVFTA officially took effect from May 1, 2021.The agreement was officially inked on December 29, 2020 in London, the UK and has temporarily taken effect since January 1, 2021. The UKVFTA was negotiated based on principles included in the EU-Viet Nam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) and were amended in accordance with the bilateral trade framework between Viet Nam and the UK.
At the end of the tariff elimination roadmap, 99% of tariffs on goods traded between Viet Nam and the UK will be cut. This means that Viet Nam will save about £114 million on exports to the UK, while the figure for the UK will be £36 million.
Figures released by the General Department of Viet Nam Customs show that in the first two months of this year, trade between Viet Nam and the UK reached over US$1.02 billion, up 20.05 percent year-on-year.
The bilateral trade value hit US$2.36 billion over the first five months of 2021, an increase of 28 percent over the same period last year.
