Murphy Oil, a U.S. energy group with more than a century of experience in oil and gas exploration and production, operates across North America, Southeast Asia, Africa and other key energy regions.

The company has been active in Vietnam since 2012 and currently participates in and operates several oil and gas contracts, including the Lac Da Vang and Hai Su Vang projects. The developments are expected to contribute additional oil and gas supplies to Vietnam and support the country's energy security objectives.

During the meeting, Minister Le Manh Hung praised Murphy Oil's contributions to Vietnam's upstream oil and gas sector and encouraged the company to continue accelerating activities under existing contracts.

The minister specifically called on Murphy Oil, as operator, to work closely with relevant partners to advance exploration and production activities at blocks 15-1/05 and 15-2/17, ensuring project quality, efficiency and implementation schedules are maintained.

Hung also encouraged the company to study further investment opportunities and consider signing additional oil and gas contracts in Vietnam, provided projects remain commercially viable and comply with local regulations.

Hambly briefed on Murphy Oil's global business strategy and reaffirmed Vietnam's importance within the company's international portfolio.

He thanked the Vietnamese government and the Ministry of Industry and Trade for supporting the company's exploration and production activities over the years, while also raising several proposals related to its operations in Vietnam.

Minister Hung said the ministry would continue reviewing measures to facilitate Murphy Oil's activities in accordance with Vietnamese law and support the company's long-term presence in the country.

Murphy Oil is accelerating its offshore expansion in Vietnam, advancing development at the Lac Da Vang field while ramping up appraisal work at the Hai Su Vang discovery, which the company described as the largest oil find in Southeast Asia in two decades.

The U.S. energy producer in May disclosed updated timelines and investment plans for its Vietnamese assets in its Q1/2026 business review, underscoring Vietnam’s growing importance within the company’s regional portfolio.

Murphy progressed the Hai Su Vang-3X appraisal well at the Hai Su Vang field in the Cuu Long basin off the coast of Vietnam, with results from the full appraisal program slated for Q3/2026, it said.

In January 2026, Murphy Oil announced that appraisal drilling had successfully expanded estimated recoverable reserves at the field to more than 430 million barrels of oil equivalent. Executives described Hai Su Vang as the most significant oil and gas discovery in Southeast Asia in the past 20 years.
