The Mong ethnic people in Mu Cang Chai town of northern mountainous Yen Bai province, celebrate the lunar New Year holiday (Tet) in a special way. Let’s dig out their customs during the festive season.

The Mong ethnic people visit their relatives and friends, sending Tet greetings between the first and third days of the first month of the Lunar New Year. As part of their celebrations, local people hold a number of traditional customs, including art performances and folk games.

Day gay (stick pushing) is a popular kind of folk game which is played by the Mong during the Tet holiday.

Cooking Banh Giay together represents an indispensable custom for the Mong ethnic people every Tet.
