Participants at the dialogue include Head of the Party Central Committee’s Mass Mobilization Commission Truong Thi Mai, Secretary of Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Van Nen, Head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Economic Affairs and Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Tuan Anh, Head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Propagation and Education Nguyen Trong Nghia, leaders of several ministries, experts and businesses. 

In his opening remarks, Vice Chairman of the Government Office Tran Van Son said the 13th National Party Congress set out Viet Nam’s development goals through 2045.

To realize the above goals, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc hosts this dialogue to highlight the contributions of the business community to the nation over the past 35 years of Doi Moi (reform) and wish to learn about businesses’ ideas to turn Viet Nam into a developed and high-income country.

Addressing the event, PM Phuc stressed the nation needs to have business giants capable of competing in the region and the world by unlocking all potentials and strengths of our people living and working inside and outside the country.

Viet Nam also needs to lure and promote external resources in terms of technology, knowledge and innovation to build a brighter future of the nation.

The Dialogue 2045 was held as part of the effort to chart course of actions to translate the development goals through 2045, said PM Phuc.

Gov’t attentive to business community’s ideas and recommendations

PM Phuc said the Government has been attentive to the business community’s ideas and recommendations as evidenced by hosting a number of meetings, working sessions and dialogues over the past years.

Entrepreneurs play an increasingly important role in the national economic development process, Phuc emphasized.

The nation is home to more than 800,000 active businesses, most of them are small- and medium-sized ones. The non-State economic sector represents around 42% of the national GDP employs 50% of the workforce.

Goals by 2045

Under the Resolution adopted at the 13th National Party Congress, Viet Nam expects to move out of the low middle-income status by 2025.

Viet Nam will become a upper-middle income country by 2030 and gain developed and high-income nation status by 2045.

These are the key time milestones as the country will mark 50th anniversary of liberation of the South and national reunification in 2025, 100th founding anniversary of the Communist Party of Viet Nam in 2030, and the 100th founding anniversary of the Democratic Republic of Viet Nam now the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam in 2045.

As the first business representative to speak at the dialogue, Vo Quang Hue, one of the chief engineers at Vinfast Hai Phong, said he has been working for Vinfast to realize his wish to manufacture made-in-Viet Nam cars.

To date, Vinfast has sold 40,000 cars since the first one was rolled out 20 months ago, said Hue – a native of the central province of Quang Nam.

The road ahead remains challenging for Vinfast, the first Vietnamese automaker. However, with the dare-to-do spirit and strong encouragement of the Party, State and people, Vinfast will continue playing a role in heightening the position of Vietnamese businesses on the international market.

Nguyen Dang Quang, Chairman of the Masan Group suggested the Government focus on sharpening the competitiveness of supply chain, especially infrastructure and distribution aspects, as logistics costs still remain high, accounting for about 30% of goods prices, thus affecting competitiveness of local goods.

Quang also called on the Government to accelerate digital transformation and shift to green growth to create impetus for national development.

Truong Gia Binh, FPT Group Chairman said it is high time for all Vietnamese people to join hands to realize the common aspiration of building Viet Nam into a powerful country.

He suggested the Government effectively tap opportunities from the 4th Industrial Revolution.

Don Lam, Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of VinaCapital said Viet Nam should stay prepared in terms of land, resources, energy, workforce and incentives to build net for “eagles” (foreign investors).

He suggested the Government to pay special attention to improve economic and social infrastructure connectivity between localities to reduce logistics costs while simplifying investment procedures to further shorten time required FDI projects.
