Da Nang has become a leading tourist destination, and visitors to the city make up an important part of the city-based consumer community. What does Da Nang do to increase sales of services and goods domestically?
We have improved infrastructure and the face of city-based Con, Han and other traditional markets, as well as intensified activities there to better serve and attract visitors to go there for check-in and shopping.
We have also boosted nighttime economic activities, including the Son Tra nighttime market. This market has a convenient location, right next to the Dragon Bridge. International tourists coming there not only have the opportunity to shop and experience special foods but also admire the Han River by night. The nighttime market has attracted a growing numbers of local and foreign tourist shoppers.
The Da Nang Department of Industry and Trade and relevant agencies and enterprises have been working to promote OCOP (One Commune One Product) and signature commodities of the city through tourism-based activities, as a way to help enterprises increase sales of goods.
OCOP products, goods with geographical indications, commodities of collective brands, and certified products made by city-based enterprises, including TOP COCO Coconut Cracker, Ba Lieu Me sesame dry cakes, Mayaca clean coffee, Da Tuu Polyscias fruticosa wine, and Tam Nguyen ginger tea, among other products, have attracted domestic and foreign tourist shoppers.
The department has opened showrooms and points of sales for OCOP and signature products of the city in markets attracting a large number of tourists.
The domestic market is considered an important driver of economic growth, but it’s not simple to boost domestic consumption, as people’s livelihoods still face difficulties and the purchasing power has not yet returned to normal. What will Da Nang do to stimulate domestic consumption in the coming time?
Since the end of the COVID-19 pandemic, Da Nang has taken various solutions to stimulate domestic consumption.
For tourists, we will continue to maximize their shopping potential through developing traditional markets as well as the nighttime economy, commercial programs, and promotion of OCOP products during cultural festivals and events.
In the coming time, the department will continue coordination in strengthening information dissemination, as well as in renovating and intensifying the promotion of Da Nang’s OCOP and distinctive products through the establishment of sales points at popular tourist attractions, such as East Sea Park, Ba Na Hill and Cham Museum, markets and supermarkets.
For local people, we have organized and will continue to carry out trade promotion activities, such as business networking, trade fairs and exhibitions. At these events, there are discount programs to stimulate consumption.

Along with preparing products for supply, it is also important to ensure price stability and prevent counterfeiting and trade fraud, especially during the year-end period. How will the Da Nang Department of Industry and Trade implement this task?
As a member of the city’s Steering Committee for Combating Smuggling, Counterfeiting and Trade Fraud, the Department of Industry and Trade has coordinated with the Da Nang Market Surveillance Department to inspect production and trade units, markets, supermarkets, and shopping malls. The goal is to prevent counterfeiting and penalize violating units, while not adversely affecting the production and trade situation of enterprises.
In addition, controls will be tightened to ensure the quality and reasonable prices of products during the city’s festivals and holidays, aiming to maintain a healthy market and ensure fairness in business operations.
We have a market surveillance team to monitor the market situation and prices of essential goods. The team is responsible for receiving information and feedback from enterprises regarding any related violations in order to take timely action to ensure the rights and interests of consumers as well as the operations of businesses.
| After three years of implementing its OCOP program, Da Nag has so far had 64 certified OCOP products, including 21 four-star products, 42 three-star products and one potential five-star product. The city also has many potential signature products, many of which have been promoted and favored by consumers, such as the My Phuong Foods Company’ coconut crackers, Ba Lieu Me dried sesame cakes, and more. |
| In late March, Da Nang announced its Enjoy Da Nang 2024 program to attract visitors to the city and increase sales of goods and services.
The program provides visitors with the opportunity to experience Da Nang’s attractive nighttime tourist offerings, including the Charming show, the “ao dai” (Vietnamese traditional long dress) show; the Han River nighttime tours with tourist boats or cyclos; watching the Dragon Bridge breathing fire and water; nighttime music performances at five-star hotels, music venues, bars, and clubs; An Thuong Tourist Street; Son Tra and Helio nighttime markets; and My An Beach, among others. The Da Nang People’s Committee has told the Department of Tourism and relevant agencies to well control service/product prices and service quality, so tourists can have the best experiences in the city, and strengthen the promotion and sales of local signature products at tourist attractions. The city’s Department of Industry and Trade has planned to launch trade promotion programs from June to August 2024 and from November 2024 to February 2025, through which consumers can access such promotions as price discounts of up to 100 percent of the goods/services’ total value, gifts, vouchers, and join lucky draws. The programs aim to stimulate consumption by local residents and tourists during the summer holiday, festivals/events organized by the city People’s Committee, and during the last months of 2024. |
