Celebrating the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the United Kingdom

On the occasion of the 50^th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the United Kingdom, BUV held a ceremony on June 15 to introduce the expansion plan for its $165-million campus.

Raymond Gordon, BUV vice chancellor and president said, "This is part of a long-term investment strategy for Vietnamese education that aims to give the nation's younger generation the opportunity to access British higher education programmes in a world-class learning environment."

The campus, which is located in the middle of the green natural landscape of the Ecopark urban area, already has phase 1 and the first half of phase 2 completed, which includes lecture theatres, a modern library with 24/7 classrooms, an academic building with administrative rooms, functional classrooms, a sports complex, and a canteen. The second phase of development is scheduled to be finished in early 2025, with the entire campus completed in early 2028.

"BUV is the symbol of educational excellence, innovation, promotion, and the creation of global citizens. At BUV, this is not limited to the classes and subjects studied, it is welcomed in all activities within the school," said Gordon.

At BUV, along with academic knowledge, students can carry out project exercises and build practical skills using modern equipment and technology. To achieve this, BUV focuses on developing a system of functioning classrooms for Game Design and Programming, Computer Science, and Tourism and Hospitality. Students are encouraged to actively participate in the sharing of knowledge and ideas, as well as in the discovery and enhancement of their learning and research capacities.

Nguyen Van Phuc, Deputy Minister of Education and Training stated, "I highly appreciate BUV and its campus, which are delivering a global-quality education to local students and improving the standard of Vietnam's university education. BUV is carrying out its commitment to invest in Vietnam's education system, growing the facilities and contributing to the educational cooperation between the two countries."

Launching the next phases of BUV's $165-million campus development plan

Along with its educational mission, BUV is working to minimise CO₂ emissions in all of its operations, with the goal of becoming one of Vietnam's first carbon-neutral institutions. This is consistent with the core value of sustainability and responsibility that BUV strives to execute.

The BUV campus is lush, with many trees and plants that provide shade and fresh air. The architectural space is meant to maximise natural light and ventilation while reducing energy use by 20 per cent. BUV staff and students are encouraged to use buses to travel to the campus instead of personal vehicles to reduce emissions.

Furthermore, BUV just became the first institution to employ a food waste composter machine. This approach, proposed by one of BUV’s Hospitality Management lecturers, contributes to solving the problem of food waste by converting it into organic fertiliser for the university's herb garden.

Over the years, BUV has shown itself to be a successful educational collaboration model between the Vietnamese and UK governments. BUV received 5-star recognition from the Quacquarelli Symonds organisation and accreditation from the UK Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education, demonstrating its steadfast dedication to its goals.
