In the first five months, Kien Giang province's export turnover hit US$317 million, equal to 42 percent of the annual target and up nearly 16 percent year-on-year.

Kien Giang province’s exports up nearly 16%
A senior official from the provincial Department of Industry and Trade said that amid the complex developments of COVID-19 in the world and in Viet Nam, Kien Giang has effectively conducted prevention and control measures and recorded no community transmission cases to date.
The production and business activities of enterprises in the southern locality have therefore developed well.
In addition, as few countries witnessing new outbreaks are not main markets of local companies, their imports and exports have remained stable.
Among exports, rice was the province’s key staple, with over 205,000 tons shipped abroad in the period for more than US$111 million.
Exports of aquatic products and footwear fetched nearly US$94 million and over US$60 million, respectively.
According to the provincial Department of Industry and Trade, COVID-19 made it difficult for local firms to ship products to traditional markets, and processors also faced a shortage of raw materials due to climate change and diseases.
However, with sound business strategies, many companies were successful in fulfilling contracts and were able to ship products to markets on the road to recovery.
Local companies also received legal documents on the application of the Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures (SPS) of WTO member states, which could affect the shipment of Vietnamese agricultural products.
The department also provided support and worked to remove bottlenecks in capital, materials, workers, trade promotion, and market development for local producers./.
