MPI Deputy Minister Nguyen Thi Bich Ngoc spoke at the workshop

The workshop was attended by numerous representatives from central ministries, national and international agencies, embassies, the UN in Vietnam, some provinces, press agencies, and several experts.

Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Thi Bich Ngoc asserted that the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) have become cross-cutting in national and sectoral strategies and policies.

“Vietnam obtained many achievements in sustainable poverty reduction, coverage of essential health services, universal education, access to clean water and sanitation, IT infrastructure, guarantee of stable forest coverage, and increased renewable energy consumption out of the total final energy consumption,” the MPI deputy minister said.

She also emphasised, “Through the development of the VNR 2023, Vietnam wished to share achievements and progress made in the implementation of the SDGs, especially over the last five years since the first VNR.”

At the same time, she shared challenges in the SDG implementation and presented orientations and key activities for the remaining time.

The deputy minister wished that central ministries, provinces, and national and international organisations would accompany Vietnam and contribute to the VNR process so that Vietnam’s VNR fully expresses the voice and roles of all stakeholders towards promoting and achieving the SDGs.

Speaking at the workshop, Dennis Quennet, director of the Macroeconomic Reforms and Green Growth Programme at German Corporation for International Cooperation, and Pauline Fatima Tamesis, the UN resident coordinator in Vietnam, asserted to accompany and support Vietnam in the VNR 2023 process.

At the workshop, the participants listened to a presentation on Vietnam’s draft VNR 2023 Outline, roles, and collaboration of stakeholders in the VNR process, as well as experience and practices from the German VNR process and Vietnam's tentative timeline.

Participants said that they would accompany the MPI during the VNR implementation, and highly appreciated the ministry’s efforts in creating opportunities for all stakeholders to make contributions and raise their voices in the VNR process and considered that Vietnam's VNR 2023 is an important basis for the parties to navigates and accelerate their actions towards the accomplishment of the SDGs by 2030.
