Breaking ground in February 2025, the mall is being built on an area of over 13 hectares in Bai Chay ward. The commercial center itself spans 9.1 hectares, while 3.92 hectares are allocated for transport infrastructure. It has a total investment of more than VND5.2 trillion ($197.2 million).
Construction units have already completed foundation work and the structural framework for three out of five floors. The site operates around the clock with 500 to 600 engineers and workers on-site in three shifts daily, including weekends, according to Quang Ninh newspaper, a media entity under the provincial Party Committee.
The project has received strong support from provincial authorities, especially in streamlining administrative procedures and technical issues, the newspaper quoted Inui Shinichiro, general manager of Aeon Mall Ha Long, as saying.
Aeon Mall Ha Long is designed as a first-class commercial center, with a total floor area of 208,000 square meters. It will offer a full range of services, including retail space, restaurants and cafés, children’s play areas, and a cinema complex.
With its prime location in Quang Ninh’s tourism and service hub and good transport connectivity, the mall is expected to attract around 10 million visitors per year and create approximately 2,500 regular jobs upon opening.
Inui added that with current construction progress under tight daily supervision, contractors are committed to substantially completing all main structures and auxiliary facilities by early October 2026.
The investor is preparing to open the mall between mid-November and December 2026, aligning with the peak tourism season in Ha Long, home to the UNESCO-recognized natural heritage site Ha Long Bay.
Currently, Aeon Mall operates seven shopping centers in Vietnam, with a total leased area of approximately 462,000 square meters. They are located in Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Hai Phong, and Hue. Some other outlets are under construction or will take shape in many other localities across Vietnam.
