The “Circular Economy in the Net Zero Commitment' conference hosted by INSEE Ecocycle Vietnam late last week showcased collaboration with key partners, including NS Bluescope, BASF Vietnam, and, Freetrend Industrial A (Vietnam) Ltd., on sustainable development, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, minimising waste, and protecting the environment.
Eamon Ginley, general director of INSEE Vietnam said, “INSEE Vietnam is delighted what our Ecocycle business has achieved in 15 years of operation in Vietnam. In that time, we have contributed to more than 1.6 million tons of waste being treated by co-processing at our Hon Chong cement plant site to replace coal and have reduced CO2 emissions by more than 1.5 million tonnes.”
“We are also a leader in using other industrial by-products in our cement, like fly ash from power stations and slag from steel plants. We believe in the evolution of our Ecocycle business to further develop our recycling and waste solution services, offerings customers an exciting and important business opportunity that will continue to help Vietnam achieve its COP26 ambitions and ensure that responsible choices for handling waste are available,” said Ginley.

Bruno Fux, general director of INSEE Ecocycle Vietnam, a subsidiary of Siam City Cement Group said, “I am proud of the achievements so far and extremely thankful for the 250 customers we are working with to make Vietnam a greener place."

Looking back over 15 years of continuous R&D, INSEE Ecocycle has reaped many outstanding achievements. For instance, it has become the first company in Vietnam to successfully process PCB-contaminated oil, classified as toxic waste, and certified by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.
It is also the first enterprise in Vietnam to successfully process hydrofluorocarbons – the gases causing global warming – as well as completely process over 1.6 million tonnes of hazardous & non-hazardous waste, equivalent to reducing 1.5 million tonnes of greenhouse gases.
According to Lam To Trinh, NS Bluescope deputy general director of Business Innovation & Development, the 'Net Zero' commitment in 2050 in Vietnam is an irreversible choice.
“For this reason, the timely fulfilment of this commitment would give a long-term benefit to the nation and enterprises,” she said.
To reach Net Zero, carbon neutralisation is the critical key. Erick Contreras, BASF Vietnam general director, spoke about the bond between chemistry and the circular economy and its commitment to neutralising CO2 in Vietnam. "To gain Net Zero, the optimisation of renewable energies will be the backbone of every plan,” he said.
Alain Cany, chairman of Jardine Matheson Vietnam and chairman of the European Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam (EuroCham), made an insightful speech about the Vietnamese Government’s orientation and action plans as well as advantageous commitments to enterprises when they commit to Net Zero.
