Along with items such as cosmetics, jewelry, and clothes, flowers always prove to be a popular and special gift on Vietnamese Women’s Day, which falls on October 20, with imported flowers dominating the local market this year and receiving more orders than ever.

In a flower shop on Ba Trieu street, Hanoi capital, bouquets of flowers cost between VND1.5 - 3 million (equivalent to US$65 – US$130) each.

Thien Di, a flower shop owner, says imported flowers have become a favourite item on Vietnamese Women’s Day in recent years due to their beauty and freshness for between 12 and 15 days.

This year has seen sellers receive a considerable increase in the number of online orders, with the majority valued at around VND2 - 3 million, equivalent to US$87 to US$130, each.

Roses imported from Ecuador are among favourites this year, with each hovering between VND130,000 and VND190,000, or US$5 to US$8.

The most expensive item available is “Thao duong hoang de”, also known as Sugarbushes or the King Protea, priced at VND520,000, or US$22, each.

“Cuc mau don”, also known as the Peony flower, are imported directly from the Netherlands.

A bouquet of flowers contains various unique colours.

Florists have a busy day ahead as people celebrate Vietnamese Women’s Day on October 20.

Their work requires plenty of skill and creativity.
