By end of 2021, Sinh Con, Sinh Cha has successfully organised a series of parenting workshops in various provinces and cities across the country, benefiting more than 3,200 parents, children, kindergarten teachers, and staff.

The programme’s educational sitcom series and wide-ranging digital parenting content – as well as the Sinh Con, Sinh Cha parenting community group – have garnered millions of views and positive interactions from millions of parents.

To develop more useful parenting content, Generali’s The Human Safety Net Vietnam and the NFVC evaluate the impacts of the programme with a survey independently conducted by the Center for Vietnamese and Southeast Asian Studies at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University in HCMC.

The survey reports positive impacts on participating parents’ change in knowledge, skills, and behaviours in child-rearing and upbringing across all three content pillars of child health, behaviour, and intelligence, with an average of 85 per cent of parents surveyed agreeing that the programme helps improve their parenting knowledge and skills for each topic discussed.

About 97 per cent of the parents have changed their parenting approaches as suggested by the programme and made positive changes to their perceptions and behaviours: parents spend more time with their children; reduce parenting anger and the use of negative practices in dealing with various parenting situations such as child disobedience, tantrums, sibling fights; and instead spend the appropriate time to feed their child and know how to apply the programme’s tips to provide their child with enjoyable, delicious, and nutritious meals.

As such, the programme helps more than 97 per cent of the parents reduce their parenting stress with the level of stress significantly decreasing by more than 40 per cent after the workshops.

The survey also suggests that the programme has successfully reached out to male parents with a higher percentage increase in parenting knowledge and skills recorded than their female counterparts with regards to various parenting topics.

Riding on the success of the pilot programme in 2020-2021, the NFVC and The Human Safety Net Vietnam are forging ahead with the plan for 2022-2023. The programme is expected to reach out to an additional 4,000 parents, children, kindergarten teachers, and staff via parenting workshops in 10 provinces and cities nationwide.

Additionally, The Human Safety Net Vietnam and Generali Vietnam also seek to scale up the programme’s impacts via two additional efforts. They will contribute and combine Sinh Con, Sinh Cha’s content and resources with UNICEF’s Integrated Early Childhood Education (IECD) Holistic Parenting programme.

They will also provide training for its staff and agent force to equip them with the programme’s parenting knowledge and skills to help the programme reach out to many more parent customers and community members.
