At the 2023 Sustainable Development Conference themed Taking Responsibility, Taking Action organised by VIR last week, representatives of many businesses shared their journeys of implementing sustainable development strategies, contributing to the country's energy transition towards Net Zero.
Speaking about the sustainable development strategy, Wolstenhome said, "The initiatives to reduce plastic, manage waste, and take other actions stem from a compliance process. At Hoiana, we invest in people who embrace the organisation's values and become ambassadors to spread values to people in the family and community."
To facilitate the goal, Hoiana has carried out training programmes. Accordingly, employees are trained to understand sustainability, from which they sincerely want to take actions to achieve sustainable development. At the same time, Hoiana has also taken initiatives such as granting rewards to employees who carry out corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities.
"In Hoi An, our development encompasses 1,000 hectares of land. There are many communities in these localities. Therefore, we have made efforts to connect and take actions that people can follow, such as cleaning up rubbish and protecting the environment. We also provide tools for them to clean up rubbish themselves," said Wolstenholme.
Hoiana Resort & Golf has recently handed over nearly 3.5km of canals that have been dredged and installed with a new drainage pipe system to Duyen Hai People's Committee. Since 2021, Hoiana has been dredging and clearing canals in Duy Hai commune before the rainy and stormy season. This year, this community activity was carried out on a larger scale.
Regarding Hoiana's contributions to the locality, Wolstenholme said, "Since its inception, Hoiana Resort & Golf has adopted the principle of project development in parallel with local development. At the same time, Hoiana also prioritises recruiting and developing local human resources."
Hoiana Resort & Golf has about 3,000 employees, of whom 70–80 per cent are from Danang or Quang Nam. 15 per cent of employees are from other localities in Vietnam, and about 5 per cent are from abroad.
