HCMC is telling people aged over 60 to refrain from going out and visiting crowded places amid the worsening Covid-19 situation.

The chairman of its People's Committee, Nguyen Thanh Phong, on Monday said that for a 10th straight day Vietnam has recorded more than 100 cases, 66 percent of them in and around industrial parks.

"The coronavirus situation is still developing in a complicated manner, with ever rising numbers of new infections, chains of transmission and variants. There is no sign it is stopping."

From Tuesday people visiting offices in the city must make a medical declaration, all offices must deploy teams to control the flow of people going in and out, and employees with symptoms like fever, cough and breathing difficulty should work from home, he said.

Hospitals and other medical facilities need to comply with social distancing norms, only one family member can be with patients in hospitals, and hospitals are encouraged to diagnose remotely, he said.

The managements of industrial parks should work with local authorities to ensure social distancing by organizing shifts and reducing the number people inside them, he added.

Vietnam's latest Covid wave has caused 2,406 cases in 30 cities and provinces since starting a month ago.

The southern metro, which has had seven cases, has shut down bars and dance clubs to curb the spread.
