Authorities in Hanoi have approved a list of priority strategic technologies for the 2026–2035 period, aiming to guide research, development and application efforts while boosting the city’s digital economy.
The list will help focus resources on key technological areas and serve as a basis for developing policies and support mechanisms to raise labour productivity, increase the share of the digital economy in the city’s gross regional domestic product (GRDP), and promote sustainable socio-economic development.
According to the decision, the list includes 10 groups of strategic technologies covering a wide range of products and solutions.
Among them are artificial intelligence technologies, digital twins and virtual/augmented reality. Priority products include Vietnamese large language models, virtual assistants, sector-specific AI systems, data analytics AI, digital twin technology and metaverse platforms.
The city will also prioritize cloud computing, quantum computing and big data technologies, including cloud services, quantum communication and large-scale data centers.
Blockchain technology is another focus area, with applications such as digital assets, cryptocurrencies, blockchain network infrastructure and product traceability systems.
In digital infrastructure, next-generation mobile network technologies such as 5G and 6G have been identified as key pillars, alongside high-speed IP transmission and advanced radio access network solutions.
Other priority sectors include robotics and automation, semiconductor chips, advanced biomedical technologies, energy and advanced materials, cybersecurity solutions, and aerospace technologies such as unmanned aerial vehicles.
