The company said on September 3 that the record ridership was due to people’s interest in traveling into the central areas of the capital city to celebrate the 80th anniversary of August Revolution and National Day.
Between August 30 and September 2, the peak period of the National Holiday, the Cat Linh – Ha Dong route transported a total of 468,000 passengers.
On the Nhon – Cau Giay Station, part of the ongoing Nhon – Hanoi Railway Station metro project, the ridership in the four-day holiday reached 217,000 passengers.
From August 21 to September 2, the two lines served about 1.8 million passengers. This was when Hanoians and visitors from other provinces flocked into the city to watch four parade rehearsals and the national commemoration.
According to the Hanoi Metro, the recorded numbers prove the important role of railways in reducing road congestion and ensuring smooth traffic on major holidays.
To improve customer services, the Hanoi Metro and its partners offer free rides, 40,000 bottles of free water and more 2,000 portions of free bread and pastries to passengers.
In its statement, the company expressed gratitude for the city’s support and apologized for any inconveniences during peak hours.
Looking ahead, Hanoi Metro aims to become a regular choice for residents, contributing to easing traffic congestion, protecting the environment and building a modern capital city.
