The northern port city of Hai Phong have moved to put 22 people into isolation after they had come into close contact with the 30th novel coronavirus (COVID-19) patient who had visited Cat Ba island in Cat Hai district.

The contact came on March 5 as the 30th COVID-19 patient and her husband had traveled by car to Cat Ba island before boarding a tourist boat in order to visit Lan Ha bay through a scheduled tour operated by a local travel company.
Onboard the boat with the couple were 22 crew members and 23 tourists. The cruise ship then took the group to visit and spend a night at the Sang and Toi caves located around Cat Ba island before the patient returned to Hanoi on March 6.
Following the discovery of the presence of a person infected by the COVID-19, the boat was placed on lockdown with 16 crew members onboard, while six other crew members who had come into contact with the tourists during their excursion to the Sang and Toi caves had left the vessel in order to return to their homes in the provinces of Quang Ninh and Thai Binh.
Local authorities have placed a total of 16 crew members onboard, four room service staff, and two officers of the Cat Ba National Park into isolation.
Cat Hai district has also informed other localities that they must move to put the six crew members who left the ship for their home provinces into quarantine.
Local authorities are continuing to identify the journey of the other 23 tourists onboard the vessel in order to notify any provinces about their movements so they can be put into isolation in a timely manner.
