Hai Phong and Seoul are stepping up cooperation in biomedicine and biotechnology (Bio-Tech), with a focus on attracting investment and establishing satellite research and development (R&D) centers in the northern Vietnamese port city.
On May 26, representatives from Hai Phong’s Department of Science and Technology and the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on technology transfer through an online ceremony connecting the two cities.
Under the agreement, the two sides will pursue six key areas of collaboration, including investment in innovation infrastructure, the establishment and operation of the KIST Hai Phong Technology Center and KIST–Hai Phong Techhub, training of high-quality science and technology personnel, innovation network development, technology matchmaking, and the commercialization of research outcomes and promising technologies.
Priority sectors for cooperation include biomedicine and biotechnology, alongside efforts to attract South Korean investment and develop satellite R&D hubs in Hai Phong.
The event also featured additional technology transfer agreements between KIST Gangneung Center, South Korean company ECO-HOPIA, and Vietnam’s Song Gia Green Agriculture Co., Ltd.
According to Hai Phong officials, the city aims to become a leading regional hub for receiving and transferring South Korean technology, further strengthening its role in Vietnam’s innovation ecosystem.
