The National Hospital for Tropical Diseases are in the process of setting up an Intensive Care Unit at the Chi Linh Medical Centre in Chi Linh City in order to treat severe novel coronavirus (COVID-19) cases.

According to Dr. Vu Minh Dien, the unit will consist of a total of 20 beds featuring modern equipment which will be transported to the centre as soon as possible. Along with this, experts from The National Hospital for Tropical Diseases also arrived in the city in order to train local medical staff to work at the centre.

At present Chi Linh City is the country's latest COVID-19 hotspot. As of January 29, the city had registered a total of 29 cases of the pandemic within the local community. Of the total, three cases require special treatment, including a woman who is 27-weeks pregnant, a woman who is 34-week pregnant, and a patient suffering from underlying health issues.

Chi Linh Medical Centre is one of three COVID-19 treatment hospitals to be established in the northern province of Hai Duong.

Elsewhere, Bach Mai Hospital in Hanoi, the largest throughout the entire northern region, will be in charge of opening the second COVID-19 hospital within the Hai Duong Medical Technical University.

Finally, the third hospital will be located at the Hai Duong sports stadium and will receive all of the equipment used for a similar hospital that was built at Tien Son sports centre in the central city of Da Nang.
