This is part of a newly-approved national program for occupational safety and health for the 2021-2025 period.
The program sets goal to provide training in occupational safety and health to over 80 percent of workers performing tasks bound by strict requirements for occupational safety and health.
At least 80 percent of workers with occupational accidents or diseases will be entitled to compensation and benefits in accordance with the law.
To that end, the program aims to complete the legal system, improve the capacity of supervision, inspection and provision of public services on occupational safety and health, enhance communication and awareness of occupational safety and health, and promote international cooperation.
The Government will encourage domestic and foreign entities to provide resources and experience for implementation of the program.
The Government will also expedite application of technical solutions to prevent hazardous elements in sectors and fields at high risk of occupational accidents and diseases, such as mineral extraction and processing, metallurgy, chemicals, and construction.
Viet Nam ratified the Occupational Safety and Health Convention in 1994 and the Promotional Framework for Occupational Safety and Health Convention in 2014.
According to the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, there were 3,612 labor accidents in the first half of 2021, a year-on-year increase of 7.85 percent, causing 418 deaths and 829 severe injuries.
