The goal to acquire 150 million COVID-19 vaccine doses this year is “feasible”, Health Minister Nguyen Thanh Long said on Monday.
The ministry has made every effort to strive to achieve herd immunity by the end of this year, Nguyen added.
It has approved AstraZeneca/Oxford COVID-19 vaccine and Russia's Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine for emergency use in Viet Nam while two others are under consideration, according to the minister.
Viet Nam has received 2.9 million AstraZeneca vaccine doses, including nearly 2.5 million doses shipped via the COVAX Facility.
Last Wednesday, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh approved a COVID-19 vaccine fund to rally support from local and foreign individuals and organizations for purchase, import, research and production of COVID-19 vaccines.
The fund, directly managed by the Ministry of Finance, welcomes voluntary financial and vaccine aid, assistance and contributions as well as other lawful resources.
The ministry was tasked to run the fund in line with legal regulations in an open, transparent and effective manner./.
