The plan was unveiled at a conference last Thursday on challenges and solutions to accelerate the development of specialized semiconductor chips in Vietnam.
Geleximco plans to test and integrate Vietnamese-designed control ICs, sensors, and power chips into electric vehicles and the group’s broader industrial ecosystem. The facility aims to launch commercial products in early 2028.
By deploying locally designed chips in its own products and industrial systems, Geleximco could provide a testing ground for domestic semiconductor products, allowing engineers to validate and refine their designs before moving toward wider commercialization.
The planned chip plant is part of Geleximco’s broader push into high-tech industries.
In July, the group opened the AIMOGA AI Robot Experience Center in Hanoi. The facility is the first AI robot showroom within Geleximco’s high-tech ecosystem in Vietnam and marks the start of a strategy to develop AI and robotics with international technology partners.
Vu Van Tien, chairman of Geleximco’s founding council, said the group plans to expand investment into strategic technology sectors, including artificial intelligence, chips, and other emerging technologies.
Geleximco’s plans come as Vietnam steps up efforts to build a domestic semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem.
In January, military-run Viettel broke ground on Vietnam’s first chip fab, which is being built on a 27-hectare site at Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Park in Hanoi. The facility will initially operate at the 32-nanometer technology node, and trial production is slated for the end of 2027.
Once operational, it is expected to serve industries including aerospace, telecommunications, the Internet of Things, automotive manufacturing, medical equipment, and industrial automation.
