The facility, operated by FPT Analysis Technologies JSC, has six production lines and a designed capacity of up to 300 million chips annually. Covering 1,600 square meters, it is located in Yen Phong II-C Industrial Park.
For chip testing, FPT uses automated test equipment (ATE) alongside handlers. The ATE system assesses chip functionality and performance, while handlers position components for testing and sort them according to whether they pass or fail.
The testing area is housed in a Class 10,000 cleanroom, equivalent to ISO Class 7, to control dust and other environmental factors.
FPT engineers also develop testing programs tailored to each chip design and its technical specifications. The process covers defining test parameters, setting testing conditions, and analyzing results.
The company is developing an artificial intelligence-powered platform to automate parts of test program development, from standardizing data and technical requirements to configuring tests and evaluating results.
Beyond functional testing, the facility will assess chip durability and reliability through tests under high temperatures, temperature cycling, and combined temperature and humidity conditions. Electrostatic discharge controls will also be used to reduce the risk of damage during handling.
FPT has assembled a team of semiconductor testing and packaging specialists and engineers, including personnel with years of experience at Intel's Vietnam facility. The team is responsible for developing technical procedures, operating equipment, and training employees.
During the initial phase, the plant will focus on chip functionality, quality and reliability testing, with the aim of serving semiconductor businesses in Vietnam and overseas. FPT plans to expand its reliability testing facilities to meet international requirements for testing and calibration laboratories.
The plant is expected to handle its first chip testing order for a South Korean partner, marking the start of its commercial service operations.
FPT also plans to use the facility as a practical training center. In cooperation with FPT Polytechnic College, the company will launch a pilot program in December to give students hands-on experience with chip testing equipment, production lines, and industrial processes.
Over the longer term, FPT aims to expand its advanced testing capabilities and develop chip packaging technology, broadening its role in the semiconductor supply chain.
The company has more than a decade of experience in semiconductor development and has designed products including power integrated circuits (Power ICs) and power management integrated circuits (PMICs). It is also pursuing research into AI-on-Edge system-on-chip (SoC) products.
Last year, FPT delivered its first batch of self-designed power chips to a Japanese partner, an initial step toward exporting its semiconductor products to Asian markets.
The new facility adds testing and packaging capabilities to FPT's existing chip design and workforce training activities. The company aims to build a more comprehensive semiconductor ecosystem and expand services for domestic and international customers, supporting Vietnam's efforts to move further into the global semiconductor value chain.
