Bilateral trade between Vietnam and Taiwan (China) reached $22.10 billion in the first five months of 2026, according to a report from the Vietnam Economic and Cultural Office in Taipei, which cited the latest statistics from local agencies.

This figure is almost equal to the total trade volume for the entire year of 2024 ($22.21 billion) and far exceeds the annual levels recorded in previous years.

Notably, Vietnam’s exports to Taiwan (China) in May 2026 hit $3.567 billion, surpassing the $3 billion mark for the first time in a single month and posting a record growth rate of 267.38% compared with the same period last year. This also marked the 27th consecutive month (since March 2024) of sustained positive export growth, laying a solid foundation for Vietnam–Taiwan (China) trade in 2026 to continue expanding and potentially narrowing the gap with the record $32.52 billion achieved in 2025.

Delving into the trade structure, the Office noted that the surge in early 2026 was no longer driven by traditional labor‑intensive goods but instead reflected the global technology revolution.

In the first five months, Vietnam’s total exports to Taiwan (China) reached $11.95 billion, up 156.48%. Thanks to export growth outpacing imports, Vietnam recorded a trade surplus of about $1.81 billion. According to the International Trade Administration of Taiwan (China), Vietnam firmly maintained its position as the eighth‑largest trading partner (accounting for 3.69% of total foreign trade), sixth‑largest supplier (4.66% market share), and eighth‑largest export market of the island.

The core driver behind this performance is the deep integration of Vietnamese enterprises into the local high‑tech ecosystem. Export composition is concentrated in electronics, information technology, machinery components, and supporting industrial products.

Specifically, five key technology product groups—mobile phones and data transmission devices; components for office machines and data‑processing equipment; computers and related devices; electronic integrated circuits (ICs); and data storage devices and smart cards—achieved a combined export value of $9.475 billion. This accounted for nearly 80% of Vietnam’s total exports to Taiwan (China).
