The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) has issued its fifth notification extending a ban on all international passenger flights to Thailand until the end of June 2020.

CAAT stressed the need to continue measures against the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in order to effectively prevent and control the spread of the virus.

According to this notification issued on May 16, the ban will be extended from June 1, at 17.00 UTC, to 30 June 2020, at 17.00 UTC. All flight permits granted for that period will be canceled.

CAAT allows exceptions for landings of the aircraft such as state or military aircraft, emergency landing, technical landing without passenger disembarkation, humanitarian aid, medical, and relief flights, repatriation flights and cargo aircraft.

Passengers disembarking on the above flights will be subject to communicable disease control measures, such as 14-day state quarantine, and regulations under Section 9 of the Emergency Decree on Public Administration in Emergency Situations B.E. 2548 (2005).

Meanwhile, Spokesperson of the Center for the COVID-19 Situation Administration Dr. Taweesin Visanuyothin said that no new infections of COVID-19 were reported in Thailand on 16 May 2020 and no new deaths. This is the second time that Thailand has reported no new daily cases since the pandemic began to spread in the country in March.

The total number of cases in Thailand remained at 3,025 and the death toll at 56. Out of the number of confirmed cases, 2,855 (94.38 % of all cases) have been cured; and 114 (3.77 %) are still hospitalized.
