Those mobilized are from the An Giang, Ca Mau, and Can Tho transmission teams under Power Transmission Company 4 (PTC4).
This is a practical action by National Power Transmission Corporation’s (EVNNPT) staff and workers to welcome the fourth EVN Party Congress for the 2025-2030 term.
As a key and urgent project invested by EVN, it is being accelerated to meet the schedule assigned by the Prime Minister to ensure electricity supply for Con Dao Special Zone.
The project involves a 110kV power supply system with a total length of 103.7 km, including 17.5 km of overhead transmission line through former Soc Trang province (now Can Tho city after a merger); 77.7 km of submarine cable connecting the mainland to the island; and 8.5 km of submarine cable on the island within Con Dao Special Zone.
It also expands the 220kV Vinh Chau substation in former Soc Trang province and builds a 110/22kV GIS substation in Con Dao. The total investment is nearly VND5 trillion ($190.37 million), contributing to ensuring energy security and promoting the marine economy development of the nation.
PTC4 leaders stated that being aware of the urgency and strategic significance of power supply for Con Dao to ensure energy security, national defense, and island security, the company has mobilized forces to implement tower erection and cable pulling.
Traveling out to sea to erect towers and pull cables is a major challenge, especially in transporting materials, tools, construction equipment, and moving machinery which consumes a lot of time and effort. Due to construction conditions at sea, activities must follow tidal schedules.
In the morning, engineers and workers wake up at 4:30 am to prepare to board boats to the site, returning to shore only after 7 pm. Because the tower locations are offshore without barges or large vessels, overnight stays are not possible. However, with existing experience and strong determination, the unit is committed to successfully completing the task.
Nguyen Van Bay, deputy director of PTC4, said before departure, PTC4’s leadership organized meetings to motivate the teams and required each crew to fully prepare materials and construction machinery, simultaneously developing deployment plans and strictly supervising to ensure quality, progress, and labor safety.
There is very little time left to complete the project, while weather conditions are increasingly complicated with unpredictable rain and sunshine. EVNNPT has required the teams to focus intensely, strictly comply with safety regulations during construction, and ensure quality and progress in accordance with EVN and prime ministerial directives.
