VOV.VN - Politburo member and head of the Party Central Committee’s Economic Commission Nguyen Van Binh was upbeat about the growing Vietnam-US comprehensive partnership in multiple fields at a meeting with a delegation of the US Department of the Treasury in Hanoi on July 24.
Binh highlighted the significance of this year for both sides as they prepare to mark the 25th anniversary of normalization of their diplomatic ties in 2020.
The Vietnamese Party and State attribute great importance to relations with the US, one of the leading partners of Vietnam, and desire to continue furthering the ties in the time to come, he said.
The Vietnamese Party official described economics and trade as one of the important pillars in Vietnam-US relations, saying that Vietnam does not pursue a policy of trade surplus with the US.
He suggested both sides should maintain closer cooperation to effectively resolve issues of common concern.
In reply, Acting Assistant Secretary at the US Department of the Treasury Mitchell Silk introduced an initiative which will promote low-cost private investment in energy and infrastructure in Asia (Asia EIPCI).
Binh welcomed the initiative which he said it is conformable to Vietnam’s policies of attracting domestic and foreign capital to energy and infrastructure development in the country.
