Dak Lak Province’s coffee exports have reached US$1.2 billion in 2024, according to Nguyen Tuan Ha, Vice Chairman of the Dak Lak Provincial People's Committee, in a statement on February 21.
The province has seen a significant surge in coffee prices, tripling from VND40,000-45,000 per kilogram last year to VND125,000-130,000 per kilogram. This price increase has boosted farmers' incomes, with net earnings ranging from VND200-300 million per hectare.
Looking ahead, Dak Lak authorities plan to focus on enhancing coffee quality rather than expanding cultivation areas. Efforts will also be directed toward increasing value-added processing, as currently, only 10% of the province's coffee undergoes deep processing.
Also on February 21, Dak Lak officials announced the 9th Buon Ma Thuot Coffee Festival, scheduled for March 9-13, 2025. With the theme “Buon Ma Thuot – The Global Coffee Destination,” the event aims to promote Vietnamese coffee on the international stage.
Buon Ma Thuot city, known as Vietnam’s coffee capital, boasts the country’s largest coffee-growing area, spanning 210,000 hectares and producing over 520,000 tonnes annually—more than 30% of the nation’s total output. The city’s coffee is exported to hundreds of countries and territories, playing a crucial role in the province's socioeconomic development.
“The 9th Buon Ma Thuot Coffee Festival will serve as a key trade promotion event, connecting domestic and international businesses, fostering links between production and export, and expanding global markets,” Vice Chairman Ha emphasized.
